EnvironSeal,
which consists of a Tension Ring, Fabric Sleeve, and Self-aligning
Seal, is part of the system that was approved for use in California by EPAs
Region IX. The Self-aligning Seal has mechanical, spring-loaded shoes that lightly
grip the guide pole but flex when imperfections and welds are encountered. It is easy to
see why this system is so effective: the Fabric Sleeve, pressed against the well
wall by the Tension Ring, and attached to the Self-aligning Seal at the
guide pole, blankets the entire liquid surface outside the guide pole. This blanket
protects the liquid surface from wind, blocks the escape of vapors, and reduces the area
that can be readily saturated by vapors. When using EnvironSeal in
combination with a Vapor Check Float or a Tall Float
or a Hollow Float, inside the guide pole, the entire liquid surface is isolated,
down low, from any wind effects.
Like most Ultra Check products, EnvironSeal
can be installed while the tank is in service. It comes in brass/stainless steel sections
which are bolted together, around the guide pole, during installation. The Fabric
Sleeve forms an open-ended cone when glued at the seam during installation. The Fabric
Sleeve is a type of polyurethane used for floating-roof rim seals. The Tension Ring
compresses the upper, larger, opening of the Fabric Sleeve against the wall of the
guide-pole well and also supports the Self-aligning Seal which is suspended from it
by four stainless steel chains. The lower, smaller, opening of the conical-shaped Fabric
Sleeve is banded to the Self-aligning Seal with a stainless steel band
.
